“Titanic” Will Be Back in 3D
Titanic has become an extraordinary box office smash back in 1997. Directed by James Cameron, the movie became a top grossing one till the release of Cameron’s Avatar. Titanic helped Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet to successfully build their careers.
It got 11 Academy Awards at the Oscars ceremony in 1998. This is a big record. Even today it remains the second top grossing project ever shown in the cinema.
A year ago rumors said that this historical romance that conquered the whole world would get a 3D re-release in 2012. But only now we can say when this titular ship officially returns to the big screen.
Not so long ago Michael Bay and James Cameron spoke about the future and present of 3D cinema. They didn’t make Transformers: Dark of the Moon in this popular and expensive format. Hopefully the new Titanic will provide many opportunities for Cameron to show if it’s a good idea to convert a popular old movie into 3D format or not.
Reportedly, Titanic 3D will appear in the cinemas on April 6, 2012. This day coincides with the 100th anniversary of the real voyage Titanic made on April 10, 1912 and the creation of Paramount Pictures.
Cameron isn’t the only director who wants an old movie to return to the cinema. A few months before Titanic another blockbuster will be released, Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.
The romantic story that touched the hearts of millions of people all over the world was definitely an impressive epic in 1997. It gave a lot of attention to historical details and used great costumes, but today all those sets look pretty fake and dated. Can it look better in 3D? Or will it be worse?
The Phantom Menace has more chances to win from the 3D format than the new Titanic. It’s easier to convert digital visuals into it than live-action 2D footage. But after Avatar, we can be sure that Cameron will do his best to make his new 3D film look as good as possible. We’ll see how much he succeeds on April 6, 2012.

Unbelievable! Titanic will surely conquer people’s hearts again and again!!! I’d love to see it in 3D, even though I know the plot almost by heart.
